About Elko F.I.S.H.
Friends In Service Helping
Not a week goes by that we don’t meet someone whose life has been changed by Elko F.I.S.H.
Who We Are
Elko Friends in Service Helping (F.I.S.H.) is a cornerstone nonprofit serving Elko County and surrounding rural communities since 1987 in northeast Nevada. For decades, we have provided hope and practical help to neighbors facing crisis — feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and clothing those in need.
What We Do
With compassion and efficiency, FISH operates:
A robust food bank and distribution program, providing 15–30 tons (30,000–60,000 lbs.) of food each month to struggling families and individuals.
A 21-bed emergency homeless shelter offering safe refuge and case management to help guests regain stability. The only such shelter that spans from Reno to Salt Lake City and from Las Vegas to Boise.
A community soup kitchen serving over 200 hot meals weekly, nourishing bodies and spirits. The outreach also includes hygiene and shelter supplies for area homeless and those in extreme poverty.
A thrift store and clothing closet, ensuring access to affordable or free necessities and generating critical income to support our mission.
Why We Need You
The need for our services in Elko County continues to grow. As rents climb and food costs spike, more neighbors turn to us for help. This is why we need you! We must raise $125-150K annually in addition to ongoing grants and large donors to meet our clients needs.
Your gift:
Keeps food shelves stocked and hot meals served.
Supports vulnerable men, women, and families on their path from homelessness to independence.
Helps maintain vital facilities — from shelter beds to kitchen ovens.
